History of stamps

While stamps make for an interesting geography lesson, they can also serve as a resource for history lessons. We asked the children to guess when stamps were first used. Most of them had never thought about it. Postage stamps, glued on an envelope or a parcel, are such a common sight that we can take it for granted that there were there all along. We recounted, for the students, the history of stamps, in the form of a story.

The Chief Guest Mr Amit Mehra, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, Indian School of Business inaugurated the Fair and visited the students at their exhibits.
The Fair included working models, quizzes, puzzles and interactive games.

Teacher’s Day which is celebrated in India on September 5 marks the birthday of one of the great teachers of the country- Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. This scholar, philosopher had also served as the Vice-President and the second President of India.

His birthday started to be recognised as Teacher’s Day after he wanted a day to be dedicated to the teachers of the country. On his birthday when his family and friends insists on celebrating, he said, “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if 5 September is observed as Teachers’ Day.” Thus September 5 came to observed as Teachers Day.

Best Tools to Help Kids Learn Over the Summer Holidays

Kids don’t have to be in a classroom to learn. When they’re out of school for the Holidays, they are still plenty of opportunities for them to gain new knowledge. You can help them learn by introducing them to three simple tools designed to get them interested in learning, even if they don’t realize that’s what they’re doing.

1. Ask Questions

Sometime during the toddler years, kids go through a why phase. They use that question to help them figure out the world and everything in it. Unfortunately, many kids quickly grow out of the why stage. To help kids learn over the summer, re-introduce them to the art of asking questions.

The primary section of Meridian School for Boys and Girls, Banjara Hills, staged Harry Potter’s Journey from Hogwarts to the Himalayas on December 20, day one of the 3-day Annual Day celebrations. The evening saw the school campus transforming into a magical land of witchcraft and wizardry. The event was graced by the founders of the school, Managing Director of Butta Group, Butta Neelakant, Member of Parliament Butta Renuka, CEO and senior principal D. Usha Reddy.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Atmakuri Rama Rao School celebrated Sports Day on December 19. M. Shiva Prasad, Joint Commissioner of Police, CAR Headquarters, was the chief guest on the occasion. Academic coordinator Shubhra welcomed the gathering.

Know your students

Knowing a student's interests can help you create examples to match those interests.

If a student who loves basketball comes to you with a question about a math problem, you might respond to her with a problem involving basketball.

If a student who speaks Spanish at home comes to you with a question about English vocabulary, you might answer his question and then ask him what the word is in Spanish and how he'd use it in a sentence. This type of specific responding shows that you care about your students as people and that you are aware of their unique strengths (i.e., fluency in another language).

If a girl in your class is particularly destructible, you can support her efforts to concentrate by offering her a quieter area in which to work.

Orchids Premier Sports League 2016

Sports is an integral part of the curriculum at Orchids. Orchids Premiere Sports League was started this Academic year in which all the five branches across Bangalore participated. The competitions were in different categories and for different sports as well. Inauguration of the League was held at Orchids-The International school in Sarjapur during which a Walk past by all the teams was held which was followed by the Dean Ms.Indu declaring the Sports League open.
